Spaghettification 2

Neil DeGrasse Tyson is apparently highly popular with our readers. We enjoy his talks too. So here he is again.

Hat-tip Steve M Cardon.

Excellent video, and thanks for the hat tip;);-) I think we all like him because he is a voice of sanity, and rationality. We value those qualities exactly for their relative rarity in popular public discourse. Astrophysicists are my favorites because they are able to demonstrate that the Universe is beautiful, miraculous, and mysterious enough in its own right without having to invent mythologies around it… and how small and petty our earthly concerns are in light of the vast frontier we have yet to conquer. If ever there were a reason to support more advanced cultures over the more primitive, it is because that moves us closer to being able to martial human resources towards that effort rather that remaining mired in the perpetual conflicts that come of ignorance, superstition, and repression.

Exactly! Just think how much better civilization would be right now if, for the past 50 years or so, everyone had been taking their children to planetariums and observatories every Sunday instead of to Sunday school, (or mosques, or whatever). I think religious superstition would have been breathing its last gasp by now.
